NEOGEN Mannitol Salt Agar, 500 g
Mannitol Salt Agar is used for the isolation of staphylococci in a laboratory setting. Mannitol Salt Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Conforms to Harmonized USP/EP/JP Requirements.Chapman formulated Mannitol Salt Agar to isolate staphylococci by inhibiting growth of most other bacteria with a high salt concentration. Chapman added 7.5% Sodium Chloride to Phenol Red Mannitol Agar and noted pathogenic strains of staphylococci (coagulase-positive staphylococci) grew luxuriantly and produced yellow colonies with yellow zones. Non-pathogenic staphylococci produced small red colonies with no color change to the surrounding medium. NEOGEN GC Agar, 10 kg
GC Agar is used with lysed blood and other supplements for the isolation and cultivation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and other fastidious organisms. GC Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.A nutritious agar base described by Thayer and Martin for the isolation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The rich peptone mixture is enhanced by the use of corn starch to absorb toxic metabolites and a buffering system is used to maintain neutral pH. The medium is made selective by the use of various antibiotic cocktails. Thayer and Martin originally recommended the use of vancomycin, colistin and nystatin and the addition of trimethoprim which is useful in preventing the swarming of proteus. Universal Beer Agar supports the growth of more lactic acid bacteria and yields larger colonies in a shorter time than traditional brewer’s media.
